Tournaments and Fees
- All tournaments and qualifiers in this document are conducted under the rules of the USGA and the HBHGA Tournament Committee.
- The $100 membership fee covers entry into all tournaments for the year.
- A guest or one time entry fee of $30 per tournament is allowed
- A $10 closest to the pin contest will be held on most tournaments. Half goes to the player who wins, and the other half to our prize budget.
- Greens fees are not included and are the responsibility of each player
Prizes
-
- Prize values stated in this document are based on an expected annual membership of 45 golfers. Actual prize values and number of positions paid may vary based on our actual membership numbers and tournament participation.
- Payouts will be in pro shop gift cards which may be eligible for discounts
- Any individual or team winning two positions in a single tournament will be awarded the greater prize, but they cannot win both prizes. Gross winner is usually awarded first. The remaining positions are divided among the next best scores and the same option is presented if ties are involved.
Tie Breakers and Match of Cards Procedure
When indicated, ties will be resolved using USGA match of cards procedure.
- The winner will be determined from the better total score (net or gross) of the last 18*, 9, 6, 3, or 1 hole(s) played, in that order. (* 2-day tournaments will start the tie breaker with the better of the last 18 holes played)
- If a tie still exists, the tournament committee coordinators will make a final decision as how to resolve the tie.
- For shotgun events, where teams/players start off on different holes, the tournament committee will declare which 9 holes are the tie break holes.
In match play or for sudden death playoffs, we use following (if possible) with any strokes given per the tournament format:
- Play the last hole again
- Play the starting hole
- Fit in where the course has openings.
- Flip a coin if a consensus cannot be reached.
If for any reason the suggested tie breaking method cannot be pursued, the coordinators for this tournament will make the final decision as how to resolve the tie.
Player of the Year
The Player of the Year for the HBHGA association will be determined by a point system where players earn points in each tournament. The top 8 players will then compete in a final shootout to determine the Player of the Year.
The points for each of the tournaments will be awarded as follows:

Details:
- For match play, there are no points for a bye or forfeit. You must play a match to win points. Points noted with an * are added together for each win.
- Team events will split points evenly with all team members.
- Ties will be broken as outlined in the tournament descriptions. If that is not feasible, ties will be awarded the average points of the tied positions.
- Tournaments that award 2 divisions (such as net and gross) will have the points split evenly between the two divisions (ie 50 pts per division). Unlike the money, you can win points in both divisions.
- Some fun tournaments (ie Member Guest) may not have points awarded.
Slow Play
Slow play is an issue for all golfers. The association has a vested interest in maintaining pace of play for all of our tournaments. We get early tee times on the basis that we make sure to set a good pace for the golf course. If we can’t maintain pace of play, we may endanger our relationship with the course.
We define slow play as playing significantly behind pace with 1 or more open holes in front of you.
Here are some guidelines to help you play faster:
- Look for your ball first. If feasible (and allowable in the tournament format) you can play your shot and then go help search for others.
- Play a provisional ball when in doubt as to where your ball has come to rest. Make sure you follow the provisional rules, esp. when dealing with a hazard.
- Keep others on pace. Encourage people in your group to keep on pace. Allow others to play through when you are behind.
- If you are walking, hop on the back of a cart in between holes or after tee shots to close the gap with the group in front.
Players that don’t abide by the slow play guidelines:
- 1st offense – receive a warning
- 2nd offense – 1 stroke penalty
- 3rd offense – 2 stroke penalty
- 4th offense – Disqualification
Any player that is frequently flagged for slow play may be barred from future tournaments. All offenses may be appealed to the tournament committee during or directly after the round.

HBHGA Local Rules
|
More Info
Local Rules:
- Everything in hole. No gimmies
- On #8, the drop zone is by the bottom of the stairs for all tournaments. Place the ball.
- Any ball striking the power lines or poles in between holes #1 and #2 must be replayed. Interference from the poles in a player's stance or intended swing will be entitled to relief
- You may play your provisional ball as the ball in play, with appropriate penalties and strokes, even if you find your original ball. (ie your provisional will be laying +2 strokes).
- Under penalty of 2 shots, you can take relief in the fairway when you have a lost ball or a ball out of bounds. This does NOT apply to red/yellow penalty areas, or if you have already hit a provisional. So, for example, if you lose a tee ball in the fescue, you can take relief at the edge of the fairway in line where you think it entered, no closer to the hole under penalty of 2 strokes. In this case, you would be laying 3 (tee shot + penalty), hitting your 4th shot.
- The cart path on the left side of number 13 and all artificially surfaced paths and artificial turf are played as abnormal course conditions, with relief outlined in rule 16-1.
- On number 9, players get free relief from the barn area, courtyard and wall for swing, stance and line of sight.
- Abnormal course conditions through the green and in bunkers (footprints, not raked, washouts, etc) are entitled to relief. Rake and place closest to the original spot.
- The drop on hole 16 at the top of the hill is only for disabled golfers, and does not apply to our association.
- In the event that there are 3somes, the players may take an extra shot with the following provisions:
- No player may take 2 putts in a row. The player taking 2 putts will putt first and last.
- Player 1 will take all of the shots on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16
- Player 2 will take all of the shots on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17
- Player 3 will take all of the shots on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
In match play or for sudden death playoffs, we use following (if possible) with any strokes given per the tournament format:
- Play the last hole again
- Play the starting hole
- Fit in where the course has openings.
- Flip a coin if a consensus cannot be reached.

Two Person Better Ball Match Play
- A season long match play tournament between teams of 2 players
- We will have one big single elimination bracket this year.
- The top 4 finishers from last year will be seeded 1-4 respectively.
- The rest of the bracket will be seeded randomly from the signup
- Matches to be played throughout the year with teams scheduling their own matches. Emails for members can be found on the website under Home->members.
Deadlines:
- Rd of 16: by June 1
- Rd of 8: by July 6
- Rd of 4: by Aug 31
- Finals: by Sept 26
The reasoning for this is to get a majority of the matches done before we run into the Presidents and VP Cup in August. Certain exceptions can be made if both teams are in agreement. If not, the team that was the most available to play in our normal weekend times will be declared the winner by forfeit.
Details:
- Using the GHIN app, 90% of course handicap on the day of the match, and then adjusted again off of the low person in the group.
- You should do this in the GHIN app as rounding errors may occur if you do it by hand.
- Players will play from the tees/blend they normally play. Players that equally play 2 sets of tees/blend, may choose one or the other.
- Pick your own team
- Singles are encouraged to sign up and we will try to match you with a partner. The last unmatched single on the signup sheet may run into the possibility of not having a partner and thus, be unable to play
In case of ties, teams should try to (with handicaps as appropriate):
- Play the last hole again
- Play the starting hole
- Fit in where the course has openings.
- Contact the tournament committee or flip a coin if players are not in agreement.
Prizes:
-
$120 1st Place
-
$80 2nd Place
